A correlation matrix is an (n*n) matrix which provides the correlation for any pair of stocks. An investor can reduce the portfolio risk by holding stocks that are not perfectly correlated. By investing in a diversified portfolio of assets, investors can decrease their risk in an individual asset. Correlation between equity instruments represents the relationships that exist between their respective price movements.
