Manage licenses and devices

Find your MarketXLS license and prepare to activate the add-in on another computer.

The Windows desktop add-in uses a license key. The Microsoft 365 add-in uses the MarketXLS account that you sign in with.

Find a Windows license key

Search the inbox for the email address used to buy MarketXLS. Look for the MarketXLS welcome, purchase, or license email.

If you can't find the email, contact MarketXLS support from the purchasing email address. Include the purchaser name and approximate purchase date.

Use the license information pane to confirm the current activation without sharing the full key.

Move to another Windows computer

  1. Save a backup copy of your MarketXLS workbooks.
  2. Record which data-provider accounts and integrations you use.
  3. Install MarketXLS on the new computer.
  4. Apply your license key.
  5. Reconnect any data-provider account, such as QuoteMedia.
  6. Test a formula in a blank workbook.
Apply the existing license on the new Windows computer after installation.

If activation reports a device limit, contact support. Device limits depend on the subscription and current activation state, so don't repeatedly reinstall the add-in to clear the message.

For Invalid license, an upgrade requirement, or a repeated Microsoft 365 sign-in, follow Fix an invalid license or sign-in problem.

Check both systems after moving computers

A working MarketXLS license doesn't prove that the separate QuoteMedia session is ready.

  1. Confirm that the MarketXLS license is active on the new computer.
  2. Close Excel on the old computer and any other computer that uses the same QuoteMedia account.
  3. Open one Excel instance on the new computer.
  4. Enter the Windows QuoteMedia credentials under Settings/Help > Settings > Data Subscriptions.
  5. Select Test Connection.
  6. Test =QM_Stream_Last("MSFT") in a blank workbook during market hours.

If the license works but QuoteMedia doesn't, follow Unable to Authenticate on Windows. An active session on the old computer can block a new QuoteMedia session even though the MarketXLS license activated successfully.

Sign in on Mac or Excel for the web

Open the MarketXLS (Web) task pane and sign in with the email address connected to the subscription. If the subscription doesn't appear, confirm that you used the correct MarketXLS email address.

If the task pane asks you to sign in again every time that you open Excel, confirm that browser or Office privacy settings aren't clearing the add-in's local sign-in storage. Then sign out, close other Excel instances, reopen one workbook, and sign in again. If the loop continues, contact support and include the Excel platform and version.

Microsoft 365 uses the subscription attached to the signed-in MarketXLS account.
