Refresh MarketXLS data

Update a selection or an entire workbook and check whether the source has newer data.

Refresh a workbook when you want MarketXLS to request current values. A refresh can update the formula result, but it can't make an exchange publish data before the exchange makes that data available.

A refresh and a streaming toggle do different things. Refresh recalculates a snapshot or formula request. Streaming functions update when QuoteMedia sends a new tick and streaming is on. See Turn real-time streaming on or off.

Refresh the Windows desktop add-in

  1. Open the MarketXLS ribbon tab.
  2. To update the whole workbook, select Refresh All.
  3. To update part of the workbook, select the relevant cells and choose the command for refreshing the selection.
  4. Wait for Excel to finish calculating before you edit the workbook again.
Use the Windows refresh group to choose the calculation scope without changing the formulas.

Refresh the Microsoft 365 add-in

  1. Open the MarketXLS (Web) ribbon tab.
  2. Select Refresh All to update the workbook, or select Refresh Selected after you select the cells to update.
  3. Wait for the formulas to finish calculating.
The Microsoft 365 ribbon keeps refresh scope and streaming control next to each other.

Refreshing the Microsoft 365 add-in doesn't disconnect active QuoteMedia subscriptions. Streaming formulas continue from their existing connection.

Check the result

Confirm that:

  • Excel no longer shows a calculation status.
  • The formula still refers to the intended symbol and period.
  • The market or reporting period has newer data available.

If a refresh doesn't change the value, check data coverage and delays. If many formulas are slow, follow Fix a slow or freezing MarketXLS workbook.
