Choose an add-in

  • If you use only desktop Excel on Windows, install the Windows desktop add-in.
  • If you use Excel on a Mac or in a browser, install the Microsoft 365 add-in.
  • If you switch between a Mac and Excel for the web, use the Microsoft 365 add-in on both.

Avoid running both add-ins in the same Windows workbook unless you need to test compatibility. The two versions can register similar functions, which can make it harder to tell which add-in is handling a formula.

Identify the add-in you already have

Open Excel and check the ribbon:

  • MarketXLS usually identifies the Windows desktop add-in.
  • MarketXLS (Web) identifies the Microsoft 365 add-in.

You can also check a working formula. A formula that starts with mxls. uses the Microsoft 365 add-in.

The Windows desktop add-in appears as MarketXLS.
The Microsoft 365 add-in appears as MarketXLS (Web).
