Install MarketXLS on Mac or Excel for the web

Use the web add-in on a Mac or in Excel for the web. You don't need the Windows installer, a COM add-in, or VBA.

Choose an installation method

  • MarketXLS web add-in: download the MarketXLS XML manifest and follow the steps below. Sign in with your MarketXLS account after installation; data access depends on your subscription.
  • MarketXLS Select 5: the Microsoft Marketplace listing offers an add-in for up to five symbols. Open the listing, select Get it now, and follow Microsoft's prompts. You can also find it through Excel's Add-ins menu. Check the listing's limits before choosing this option.

Install the web add-in in Excel for the web

  1. Download the XML manifest linked above and keep it as an .xml file.
  2. Open a workbook in Excel for the web.
  3. Select Home → Add-ins → More Settings.
  4. Select Upload My Add-in, browse to the downloaded XML file, and select Upload.
  5. Open the MarketXLS (Web) ribbon tab and select Launch MarketXLS.
  6. Sign in with your MarketXLS account.

Excel stores a manually uploaded add-in in your browser's local storage. If you clear the browser cache or switch browsers, upload the manifest again. If Upload My Add-in is unavailable with a work or school account, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator about add-in permissions or deployment.

Install the web add-in in Excel on Mac

  1. Download the same XML manifest and close Excel.
  2. In Finder, select Go → Go to Folder (or press Command + Shift + G).
  3. Open ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Excel/Data/Documents/ and create a folder named wef if it does not already exist.
  4. Copy the XML manifest into the wef folder.
  5. Reopen Excel and open a workbook. Select the add-in from Home → Add-ins.
  6. Open MarketXLS (Web), select Launch MarketXLS, and sign in.

For a managed Mac, your Microsoft 365 administrator can help with deployment if manual installation is restricted.

Confirm the installation

In a blank workbook, open the MarketXLS task pane and enter =mxls.Last("MSFT") in an empty cell. A returned value confirms that Excel recognizes the function and your account can access that data.
