Fix stale, delayed, or unexpected data

A value can look wrong when the formula uses a different symbol, period, provider, or update schedule than you expect. Record the current value before you refresh so that you can compare the result.

Check the formula and symbol

1. Select the cell and read the complete formula in the formula bar.
2. Confirm that the formula refers to the intended symbol cell.
3. Confirm the exchange suffix and security type.
4. Check dates, periods, and optional parameters.
5. Test the same function with a common symbol such as MSFT.

If the function begins with QM_, follow Use QuoteMedia symbols and exchange data. A valid suffix and a real-time exchange entitlement are separate requirements.

For an option, compare the exact option root, expiration, call or put, and strike with a returned chain. Also compare the quote field and timestamp: a last trade, bid, ask, closing value, and official settlement value aren't interchangeable. For a stock return or historical close, check whether each source uses raw prices, adjusted prices, price return, or total return. A recent split, dividend, spinoff, or ADR ratio change can update older adjusted values. Read Understand splits, dividends, and adjusted prices.

Check data timing

1. Check whether the relevant market is open.
2. Check whether your subscription provides real-time, delayed, or end-of-day data for the exchange.
3. If you use a streaming formula, check the QuoteMedia real-time data guide.
4. Review data coverage and delays.

Check QuoteMedia exchange agreements

QuoteMedia data can remain delayed, stale, rejected, or unavailable when a required exchange agreement is missing, incomplete, expired, or submitted with the wrong subscriber classification. This can happen even when QuoteMedia authenticates successfully.

Before you open the agreement link, close every Excel window. Use the link in the first delivery-information email sent for the MarketXLS data subscription.

1. Find the QuoteMedia agreement links or status included with your MarketXLS data subscription.
2. Complete every agreement required for the exchange that you use.
3. Confirm that you selected the correct professional or non-professional classification.
4. Submit any missing information and wait for the exchange or QuoteMedia to confirm access.
5. Close and reopen Excel after the entitlement becomes active.
6. Test a common symbol during an active market session.

Refreshing a workbook doesn't activate an unsigned agreement. If you aren't sure whether QuoteMedia accepted the agreements, email support@marketxls.com from your MarketXLS account email. Don't send a QuoteMedia password.

Refresh the request

1. Select the affected cells.
2. Use the MarketXLS command to refresh the selection.
3. Wait for Excel to finish calculating.
4. Compare the returned value with the value that you recorded.

Report a data issue

If the value still appears wrong, contact MarketXLS support and include:

• The exact formula as text
• The symbol and exchange
• The returned value
• The value that you expected
• The source and timestamp for the expected value
• Your platform and Excel version

Don't send a workbook that contains private financial information unless support asks for a sanitized copy.
