Update MarketXLS on Windows
Install the current Windows add-in without leaving Excel open or losing track of your license and data-provider setup.
Close every Excel window before you update MarketXLS. An open Excel process can prevent the installer from replacing or registering the add-in correctly.
Before you update
- Save and close your workbooks.
- Close every Excel window.
- Open Windows Task Manager and confirm that no hidden
EXCEL.EXEprocess remains. - Keep your MarketXLS license key and any Windows QuoteMedia credentials available.
- Download the current installer from the MarketXLS software page.
You don't need to change formulas in an existing workbook before you update.
Install the update
- Open the downloaded MarketXLS installer.
- If Windows asks whether to allow changes, review the publisher and select Yes.
- Follow the installer instructions.
- When installation finishes, open Excel.
- Confirm that the MarketXLS ribbon appears.
- Open a blank workbook and enter a test formula.
Capture the current Windows installer welcome screen before installation starts.

Turn on update checks
- Open MarketXLS > Settings/Help > Settings.
- Select Check for updates when app loads.
- Save the settings.
An update notification tells you that a newer installer is available. Close Excel before you run it.
If the ribbon is missing after the update
Don't run the installer repeatedly.
- Close and reopen Excel once.
- Check whether Excel disabled the COM add-in.
- Follow Restore a missing MarketXLS ribbon.
- If Excel still doesn't load normally, follow Open Excel after an add-in problem.
Capture the full MarketXLS ribbon in a blank Windows workbook.

If the license or QuoteMedia stops working
Treat these as separate checks:
- Apply the MarketXLS license if activation is missing.
- Open Settings/Help > Settings > Data Subscriptions.
- Confirm the Windows QuoteMedia credentials.
- Select Test Connection.
If activation fails, read Manage licenses and devices. If QuoteMedia fails, read Unable to Authenticate on Windows.
