Use QuoteMedia with MarketXLS
Check your real-time data access and follow the correct QuoteMedia setup for your MarketXLS add-in.
MarketXLS uses QuoteMedia for live market data, on-demand quotes, option data, and some historical requests. Your setup depends on which MarketXLS add-in you use.
Check your plan and data type
For non-professional users, real-time access starts with the Advanced plan for US and Canadian stocks, ETFs, and US options. Business also includes real-time access and extends it to more asset classes. The current plan comparison shows:
| Data type | Standard | Advanced | Business |
|---|---|---|---|
| US stocks and ETFs | 15-minute delayed | Real-time streaming | Real-time streaming |
| Options | End-of-day | Real-time streaming | Real-time streaming |
| Forex | 15-minute delayed | 15-minute delayed | Real-time |
| Indices | On demand | End-of-day | Real-time |
Review MarketXLS pricing before you troubleshoot a data speed that your plan doesn't include. Non-professional users can review additional delayed, end-of-day, and real-time feeds in Use QuoteMedia symbols and exchange data. Professional users are subject to different entitlements and exchange fees.
If you are looking for a username or password, read Find your QuoteMedia credentials. Only the Windows add-in asks you to enter them.

Understand QuoteMedia function types
Not every QuoteMedia function streams. Use the function family that matches the result you need:
- Streaming functions update automatically when QuoteMedia sends a new value and streaming is on.
- On-demand functions return a snapshot and update when Excel recalculates the formula.
- List and history functions return a table or historical series.
- Option functions can return a contract value, option chain, Greeks, or intraday option data.
See Use QuoteMedia functions by platform for examples and equivalent names.
Complete exchange agreements
QuoteMedia or an exchange might require subscriber agreements before it enables real-time data. Close Excel before you open the agreement link in your original delivery-information email. Enter your subscriber classification accurately. MarketXLS can't override an exchange restriction.

Professional subscribers use different QuoteMedia account settings. On Windows, you must also enable Quotemedia - Professional User Mode. On the Microsoft 365 add-in, MarketXLS reads the account type and uses the appropriate connection automatically.
