Set up QuoteMedia on Windows
Enter QuoteMedia credentials, choose the correct user mode, and test real-time data in the Windows desktop add-in.
The Windows desktop add-in stores a separate QuoteMedia username and password. These credentials aren't necessarily the same as your MarketXLS sign-in.
Before you begin
Have these items ready:
- The QuoteMedia username and password supplied for your MarketXLS account
- Confirmation that you completed any required exchange agreements
- Your subscriber classification: professional or non-professional
Don't send your QuoteMedia password to support.
Connect QuoteMedia
- Open Excel and select the MarketXLS tab.
- Select Settings/Help, and then select Settings.
- Open Data Subscriptions.
- Enter the QuoteMedia username and password without leading or trailing spaces.
- If QuoteMedia provisioned your account as a professional account, select Quotemedia - Professional User Mode.
- Leave the current data center selected for the first test.
- Select Save.
- Select Test Connection.
Capture the complete QuoteMedia settings area with the credentials redacted.

A successful save activates QuoteMedia for the add-in. If the test fails, confirm that you used the QuoteMedia password, not your MarketXLS password.
Set professional user mode
Select Quotemedia - Professional User Mode only if your QuoteMedia account is provisioned as professional. The setting makes the Windows add-in authenticate through the professional QuoteMedia account group.
This checkbox doesn't upgrade a plan or convert a non-professional account. The pricing page currently lists Standard and Advanced for non-professional use and Business for both professional and non-professional use. Professional users are subject to different QuoteMedia entitlements and exchange fees. Contact MarketXLS before changing your classification if you aren't sure which one applies.

Choose a data center
Windows provides East Coast and West Coast QuoteMedia data centers. Changing the data center causes the add-in to authenticate again and use the selected streaming endpoint.
Keep the current setting when the connection works. If the stream can't connect, follow Unable to Authenticate on Windows to test the other data center.
Test a streaming formula
- Confirm that the ribbon button says Streaming is ON.
- In a blank workbook, enter
=QM_Stream_Last("MSFT"). - Press Enter.
- During an active market session, wait for QuoteMedia to send a value.

If you need a snapshot instead of a continuously updating value, use an on-demand function such as =QM_Last("MSFT"). See Use QuoteMedia functions by platform.
