Use a MarketXLS template
Choose a template, review its requirements, and replace its example symbols with your own.
A MarketXLS template is a prepared Excel workbook for a specific analysis. The template library remains separate from these guides because each template is a downloadable product asset.
Choose a template
- Open the MarketXLS template library.
- Search for the task that you want to complete.
- Open the template page.
- Review its description, platform requirements, and included formulas.
- Download the workbook.
Capture the current template gallery with several useful templates visible.

Prepare the workbook
- Open the downloaded workbook in the supported version of Excel.
- If Excel shows Protected View, review the file source before you enable editing.
- Confirm that your MarketXLS add-in is active.
- Find the cells that contain example symbols, dates, or assumptions.
- Replace only those input cells first.
- Refresh the workbook.
Capture a current template in Excel with instructional cells and safe example symbols.

Save a new copy before you change formulas or worksheet structure. The untouched copy gives you a known starting point if you need to begin again.
For an option-chain template, don't drag a hard-coded option symbol. Extend the strike or expiration sequence with StrikeNext or ExpirationNext, then use OptionSymbol to build each contract. Read Use current and historical options data for an example and the Windows/Microsoft 365 syntax.
Fix a template that doesn't update
- Confirm that the template supports your MarketXLS add-in.
- Check each required function's platform availability before you convert a template between add-ins.
- Check that formulas use the correct platform syntax.
- Fix
#NAME?if Excel doesn't recognize the formulas. - Check stale or missing data if formulas run but don't return the expected values.
