Functions and formulas

Look up formula syntax, platform availability, and function-specific guidance.

Use this section when you know what formula or capability you want to look up. Use the workflow guides when you want to complete a task from beginning to end.

Formula reference

Open the MarketXLS formula reference to search the complete generated formula library. A formula page can include:

  • Syntax and parameter descriptions
  • A worked example
  • Platform availability
  • Related formulas
  • Templates that use the formula

The formula reference remains at /formulas so that existing links and search results continue to work.

Platform syntax

Read Compare formula syntax by platform before you move a workbook between the Windows desktop add-in and the Microsoft 365 add-in.

Read Check whether a function works on your add-in to use the formula library's platform filter, confirm the current registered name, and test a workbook before converting it.

For live prices, QuoteMedia snapshots, option chains, or intraday history, read Use QuoteMedia functions by platform. It shows the Windows and Microsoft 365 equivalents and explains which functions update automatically.

For options, read Create and convert option symbols before you type a contract by hand. Then use Use current and historical options data to choose a chain, quote, history, or Greek function.

For historical prices and returns, read Understand splits, dividends, and adjusted prices to choose raw close, adjusted close, price return, or total return.
